Description

The University of Klagenfurt (AAU) is a young, lively, innovative university located in the Austrian state of Carinthia, a meeting point of three cultures. The University of Klagenfurt is Carinthia’s largest academic institution and a hub for the whole of the Alps-Adriatic region in terms of knowledge acquisition, exchange and transfer. The university’s lively, diverse atmosphere and sense of openness makes it the cultural centre for the region. In keeping with the university’s mission statement, one of the University of Klagenfurt’s key tasks is to push boundaries through the research, teaching and many active co-operation projects taking place in the region. This is why the University of Klagenfurt is member of the Alps-Adriatic Rectors’ Conference (AARC) and the Kärntner University Conference (KUC).

FACULTY OF CULTURAL STUDIES - INSTITUTE OF EDUCATIONAL SCIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH

Educational research and teaching focuses on people in their individual designs, needs and potentials and as social subjects.

The research area "General Educational Science and Diversity Conscious Education" (IFEB) is oriented towards democratic basic values of an open, participatory and solidary society, in which interests and conflicts are negotiated in dialogue and minorities are perceived in their right to shape their own lives.

Education is also understood as a contribution to a non-violent society with a focus on sustainable development. Diversity plays a central role in questions of education, learning and training - it is always a question of seeking and finding a bridge from the known and familiar to the new and unfamiliar. Different approaches and topics come together.

Problems and tasks of social and school inclusion along different lines of difference (language, origin, socio-economic conditions, gender, culture, religion, disability/giftedness) are not viewed in isolation from each other, but are related through approaches of intercultural learning and transcultural models of understanding.
